She seemed to be a nice girl... Slightly older than me, if her looks are anything to judge by, with flame red hair and a look of exasperation. She introduced herself as Renee, shook my hand, and proceeded to tell me about her mother-in-law's visit and how she was not looking forward to it (as her son pulled more toys out onto the floor of the living room with the biggest smile he could muster).
Pleasant as our meeting was, her information that she and her husband were dual military seemed to stick with me more than anything else. I've known many people in my life that were dual military, but many of them didn't have children, or their children were old enough to take care of themselves if something were to happen... But now, possibly because I'm overly focused on my want to procreate, I can't imagine being dual military and raising a child.
While I'm sure their pay would be nice, and it's a steady job that you don't have to worry about such things as being laid off and downsized, what happens to your children if something happens to you? How would you feel if your son or daughter were sent to live with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. until you came home... only to find out they are there forever? While I know that this can happen to any family, no matter the situation or job title, it still makes me wonder... Are these parents incredibly brave? Or incredibly stupid?
