The day my house nearly burnt down...

So I had plans to write this about a week or so ago... you know... when it actually happened, but my trip to Tennessee minorly got in the way and I have just now got the opportunity to sit down and assess what happened, how I was feeling... and put it into words.

Thursday started as any normal day. I ran to Walmart to get some last minute things for Hannah and my trip to northwestern Tennessee, cleaned my house, and contemplated starting packing.

Later in the afternoon, while talking to Hannah on Skype, i noticed that it was looking oddly hazy, almost as if it was misting on the road by the house, but my front yard looked fine and sunny. Having no reason to investigate (paired along with my immense procrastination and laziness) I stared out of the window in my door while continuing to talk to Hannah. Soon, my neighbors were outside talking, pointing in the direction to the back left side of my house (later I found out it was just in that direction, not my actual house... yet). Deciding I wanted understand what was going on, yet still not wanting to venture outside, I walked to my bedroom window and peered out, only to find that the wooded area behind the house directly behind mine was completely engulfed in flames.

Freaking out, I grabbed my shoes and ran outside. I quickly found my neighbor, Renee, and asked her what was going on. "There's a fire," was her only response. Duh. Like the huge orange flames taking out the trees around us wasn't a big fucking hint as to that. People and their logic during emergencies amaze me. Anyway... soon a police officer was in my driveway screaming at me to grab my dog, whatever else I can in like ten seconds, and drive away. So what do I do? I grab practical things... my firebox with all our important documents, my file box with all my random account info, my laptop and my dog... and for some reason I also grabbed two picture frames containing pictures of my husband and I, as well the booklet of my husband's pictures growing up. Yea, those will help me in this emergency.

After staying at Lindsay's house a few hours, then with Hannah overnight, I was finally able to come home and find that my house was still standing. Either way it was terribly tramatizing. There was more I was going to add to this but I'll do it later because i can't talk on the phone and type simultaneously.
